What you can bring to a session

Most people arrive with one question and find a few more underneath it. Any of these is reason enough to book.

Desire

Wanting sex more, less or differently from a partner. Not wanting it at all. Asexuality and the ace spectrum. Desire that disappeared and hasn't come back.

Identity

Coming out, to others or to yourself. Gender, and what shifts in sex and dating during or after transition. Shame picked up from family, religion or school.

Relationships

Open, closed or still deciding. Jealousy. Saying what you want out loud. Thinking about children as a queer couple.

Pleasure

Kink and BDSM, whether you're curious or worried about it. Porn or hookups that feel out of hand. First times at any age. Sex after a long break.

Sexual health

Living with HIV, PrEP, STI anxiety, contraception. Sex with a disability or a chronic illness. Medication that changed things.

If something sounds medical, like pain or a physical change, I'll say so and help you find the right doctor. Where counselling stops

How the sessions change over time

My role shifts as we go, and listening runs through all of it. Here's roughly how a package of ten sessions plays out.

Listening. From the first session to the last. You talk at your own pace, and I don't interrupt or steer you toward an answer I've already decided on.

Asking. Precise questions about what actually happens, through most of the sessions. The question you came with often sits on top of another one.

Explaining. How desire and arousal work, what's common, what research says, and things to think about between sessions.

Noticing. All the way through: a pause, a change in your voice, the topic you keep stepping around.

Where counselling stops

Sexological counselling is talk-based. It doesn't diagnose or treat medical or psychological conditions, and I'm not a psychologist or a doctor. Some things need both, side by side.

With me

  • Talking it through
  • Information about sex, bodies and relationships
  • Preparing a difficult conversation
  • Working on shame and expectations
  • Getting clear on what you actually want

Both, in parallel

  • Pain during sex
  • Changes in erection or arousal
  • Desire that changed after medication or illness

A doctor or psychologist

  • Diagnosis and medical treatment
  • Medication
  • Trauma therapy
  • In a crisis: your huisarts, or 113 (free, day and night)
Marco, counsellor at Your Anthesis

Marco, he/him

I work in Utrecht and online, in English and Italian. I'm training in sexological counselling with the Master in Clinical Sexology at Giunti Psicologia.io, and in coaching and counselling at the Academy for Coaching and Counselling.

Finding someone who knows queer life well and can talk about sex without it getting awkward should be easy. In Utrecht, in English, it often isn't.
